Quotes
I understood that the world was nothing: a mechanical chaos of casual, brute
enmity on which we stupidly impose our hopes and fears. I understood that, finally and absolutely, I alone exist. All the rest, I saw, is merely what pushes me, or what I push against, blindly—as blindly as all that is not myself pushes back |
And a young prince must be prudent like that,
giving freely while his father lives so that afterwards in age when fighting starts steadfast companions will stand by him and hold the line. Behaviour that’s admired is the path to power among people everywhere. |
Thus I fled, ridiculous hairy creature torn apart by poetry—crawling,
whimpering, streaming tears, across the world like a two-headed beast, like mixed-up lamb and kid at the tail of a baffled, indifferent ewe—and I gnashed my teeth and clutched the sides of my head as if to heal the split, but I couldn’t. |
Wise sir, do not grieve. It is always better
to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning. For every one of us, living in this world means waiting for our end. Let whoever can win glory before death. When a warrior is gone, that will be his best and only bulwark. |
A videogame is the best modern version of telling the story. What better way to learn of the battles Beowulf fought then to fight them yourself? Through the medium of a game people will learn and know the basic plot without realizing it. Having almost two versions of the game also incorporates the different perspective of Grendel with a twist.
